“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16
“Confess your sins to each other” is in the context of reconciliation to each other (confession should be mutual). God directs us to confess our sins to others as to Him, and to forgive sins in His name.
“Righteous person” is one who is righteous by faith, or one who prays “in faith”.
The “power” of prayer is God’s response to prayer, which accomplishes what human will and strength cannot.
“Effective” prayer can mean either that (1) prayer is effective when it is used or (2) fervent prayer accomplishes great results. The experience of Elijah may favor the latter meaning, since he prayed earnestly.
God’s blessings to you as you honor this day…
