“The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.” Zechariah 14:9
“King over the whole earth” means that all earthly government will cease, and the Lord will reign as King. This will be the answer to the prayers of all those who pray Jesus’ words, “Your kingdom come”.
“The Lord will be one and His name the only name” was Israel’s confession … “The Lord our God, the Lord is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4), will be on every tongue (Philippians 2:11) so that “God may be all in all” (1Corinthians 15:28). The words “the Lord will be one” speak about His unity and His uniqueness.
Zechariah’s description of Jerusalem’s future anticipates John’s vision … “I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:2). Both foresee a day when the Lord will use His mighty power to crush all His enemies and make all things new and holy.
Blessings on your day…
