“The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Romans 13:9-10

Here Paul, when encouraging the regenerate to do good works, clearly presents to them the Ten Commandments.

“Love your neighbor” is as an apt summary of the Law.

“As yourself” is not a command to love ourselves. It is a recognition that we do love ourselves, and commands us to love others just as genuinely and sincerely as we love ourselves.

“Love does no harm” means to love is to place another before self; this is to be a “living sacrifice”. Love excludes murder, adultery, stealing, and lying. Therefore, when we love, we automatically fulfill the prohibitions of the Law. But when we act in accordance with God’s love, without being under the law, we fulfill it. The Law shows us how to love others as we have been loved by God in Christ.

God’s blessings on your day…
