“Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.” Proverbs 17:9

The covering of an offense in this sentence is not in the context of sin and salvation vis-a-vis one’s relationship to God. The intention of this verse is to speak of the interrelations of friends, and the problems that may destroy that friendship. Faults observed and noted may be corrected by the offending party, but the offense produced in the revelation of the fault may break the friendship. Similarly, the breaking of confidences may break the participants apart.

God’s people are not to use the Gospel as grounds for partiality in judging, for calling good evil or evil good, or for failing to protect the innocent. God is our goodness and glory, whom we honor by our faith.

God’s blessings on your day…
