“This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.” Romans 13:6

“Pay taxes” is a command that Jesus also provides in Matthew 22:15–22.

“God’s servants” is a priestly term that elevates both the source of authority and the responsibility of those in power.

Paul is stating that even when you disagree with how your government is using your taxes, you must still pay your taxes. Paying taxes is the most obvious and universal expression of support for civil government.

Paul closes this section of Romans with this teaching, “Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.”

God’s blessings on your day…
