“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2

“Now no condemnation” is an interesting contrast with the preceding vivid description of sinfulness. Here Paul depicts the freedom of living in the Spirit. God’s Law declares that all people are guilty of sin and deserve to die. Paul now concisely summarizes God’s reverse declaration for those in Christ … “Not guilty!” In Christ, we are no longer under the sentence of the law, but empowered by the Spirit to live for Christ.

“In Christ Jesus” is an expression in Romans for union with Christ and His saving work. Those who believe and are baptized into Him are now and forever free from the Law’s cold verdict and terrifying sentence.

The term “law” is equivalent to a “Principle”, which does not save, but shows our need for God’s redemption which is received through faith

The phrase “Spirit of life” is the Holy Spirit daily cleansing and sweeping out sins to make a person truly holy.

“Set you free” means freedom from a binding relationship of ownership or control and authority. While, “from the law of sin and death” means from a system in which sin brings death and the Law condemns to death.

God’s blessings on your day…
