“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” Matthew 16:25
This verse contrasts earthly and eternal life. Clinging to earthly life forfeits eternal life, but losing one’s life for Christ’s sake gains life with Christ for eternity.
Talk of suffering and death, taking up one’s cross, and losing one’s life probably sounded strange to Jesus’ early disciples. It does to us too. Yet, we just need to realize that the end is not the cross; the end is life in God’s kingdom. To live in His kingdom must be our ultimate purpose.
Many of the first disciples saw the glorious unveiling of God’s Kingdom when Christ rose from the dead. And then they saw the fulfillment of the promise on Pentecost. We continue to behold and are blessed to be part of the spread of the message of Christ’s cross into all the world even today.
God’s blessings on your day…
