“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13
Here Jesus is talking about the importance of “children of God” (believers) praying, and specifically praying for His grace and the presence of the Holy Spirit in one’s life.
Jesus teaches that Christian prayers are always heard because God has promised to hear us, and He always keeps His promises. If prayer depended on us, we could never be sure of God’s response, because sin corrupts us completely. We can depend on God to keep His promise to hear us and answer us because He never breaks His word. Prayer is a blessed opportunity stemming from the Gospel.
In support of this teaching Luther said, “Christ also wants to indicate that because of all the temptations and hindrances we face, nothing is more necessary in Christendom than continual and unceasing prayer that God would give His grace and His Spirit”.
God’s blessings on your day…
