“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” Proverbs 14:34

“Righteousness” means blamelessness, honesty, justice, and is an attribute of God praised in the Psalms. The expression “in Your righteousness deliver me” describes the psalmist asking God to keep His promise of salvation. He is the source of righteousness, which is the basis for the biblical teaching of righteousness or justification through faith.

“Righteousness exalts a nation” means that although each individual is responsible for his or her actions, the effects extend to the whole community. This reminder was aimed especially at rulers and other public servants that their good example would be beneficial for the entire nation. Their sin, likewise, affects and disgraces all who live under their rule. Israel received blessings from the Lord through faithfulness, while the Canaanites were cursed and cast out.

God’s blessings on your day…
