“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

“Common” means all humans undergo temptation, even those who, like some Corinthians, think that they have special spiritual abilities.

“God is faithful” relates to His covenant promises from the Old Testament. God always keeps His promises and never changes.

“He will also provide a way out” is important to realize because it means that God has promised to remain with His people, we are never left in a losing situation. His grace provides new opportunities for us to be faithful.

“Lead us not into temptation” (from the Lord’s Prayer)… refers to times when God gives us power and strength to resist a temptation. However, the temptation is not taken away or removed. While we live in this world and have the devil around us, no one can escape his temptation and lures. It means that we must endure trials, and indeed, be engulfed in them as it says in 2 Timothy 2:3. But we say this prayer so that we may not fall and be drowned in them. To feel temptation is, therefore, a far different thing from consenting or yielding to it.

In general, God is so good that He will not let believers experience anything for which He has not prepared them. He will give every believer the grace and power to endure.

God’s blessings on your day…
