“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:35, 37

Rhetorical questions with mounting intensity. The same answer follows … “no”. If no one can successfully oppose us, charge us, or condemn us with regard to our personal relationship with God (as stated in the previous few verses), then it follows that no one can separate us from Christ’s love for us. The list in this verse covers the full range of experiences that could seem to pose a challenge to the reality of Christ’s love.

“Shall trouble… sword” … Paul lists seven things that threaten to come between us and Christ’s love, all of which Paul himself experienced.

“More than conquerors” is a heightened form of a Greek word meaning “to prevail completely.” The trials and difficulties listed not only do not separate us from Christ’s love; they make us “more than conquerors” by forcing us to depend even more on God.

“Loved us” to the point of death on the cross. Christ gained total victory for us.

God’s blessings on your day…
