“And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.” Luke 1:46-47, 49
These verses comprise part of what is called “Mary’s Song” or the Magnificat. In antiquity, poetic compositions were typically chanted or sung. Here Mary praises God with a recital of what He has done. The hymn is one of four hymns in Luke 1 and 2.
“God my Savior” is a title often used for God, especially in Psalms. The title underscores not only His rescue from physical calamity, but also His saving power in spiritual matters.
“Holy is his name” indicates how unique God is and how He is set apart from all other beings.
The Lord delivers His people amid suffering and disappointment. Today, no matter what troubles assail you, trust in the Lord as your deliverer, and commend all cares to Him in prayer. Rejoice in His surpassing mercy through the Holy Child, who delivers the generations from sin and sorrow.
God’s blessings on your day…
