“For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.” Isaiah 33:22
The term “judge” has many meanings in the Old Testament. For example, Elders served as officers of law courts in their communities. The judges who led Israel during the tribal period were not officers of such courts, but temporary military saviors. These tribal judges did not always come to their office because of tribal or family background; the Lord raised them up, or they were appointed by another Israelite leader.
The term “Lawgiver” is was God’s way to point out the correct path for the Israelites to follow. This was merely another expression of His mercy.
“Salvation” is God’s righteousness in victory over wickedness, and thus salvation comes to His people solely because of Him. Today, we often fall and lack regard for the Lord’s promises and the righteousness that comes through faith. We should live in the peace of knowing with certainty that our greatest treasure is the Lord’s abundant salvation. His beauty is seen in His love for sinners.
