“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119:165
In Psalm 119, the psalmist took great delight in God’s Word because his soul had been made alive by God’s grace, and it was now his responsibility to praise the living Lord. Like a lost sheep, who never find their own way back to the shepherd, the psalmist’s final prayer is “seek Your servant”.
Augustine, an early church father 354-430 AD, described this verse this way, “He who loves the law of God, honors in it even what he does not understand; and what seems to him to sound absurd, he judges rather that he does not understand, and that there is some great meaning hidden: thus the law of God is not an offense to him.”
