“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12
We have the Son by believing all that God has testified concerning Him. This faith is not of ourselves; it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8–9). We possess the gift of eternal life now by believing in Jesus, since John clearly states that our relationship with the Son determines whether we possess eternal life.
The testimony of the apostles, the life of Jesus, and the work of the Spirit testify that God has given us life in His Son. This testimony is in stark contradiction to all who teach that God’s Son did not suffer in the flesh, or that He comes to us apart from the flesh of His humanity.
