“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
We are all part of God’s handiwork in His creation. Our “good works” are not the cause of our salvation, but its result. Judaizers threatened most early Christian communities, teaching that Gentiles had to obey the Old Testament Law in addition to faith in Christ. But Paul insists that God saves both Jews and Gentiles by grace through faith, apart from any works. The grace of God is the source of salvation; faith is the channel, not the cause. We cannot even lay claim to our “good works”, for God created them for us to do in Christ. Today’s self-help culture tempts us to try to do it all ourselves, including taking the credit for any works.
God’s blessings on your day…
