“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14
David affirms that the work of God in his life extended back to his development in his mother’s womb. Our very bodies, with their inner organs and biological complexity, are the work of God.
“Knit me together” is a picture of plaiting and interweaving, as with muscles, nerves, and veins. The human body is described as an artistically designed network.
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made” might be rephrased as “I am an awesome wonder”.
An early church father wrote, “God created the body and soul of Adam and Eve before the fall. But He also created our bodies and souls after the fall. Even though they are corrupt, God still acknowledges them as His work”.
God’s blessings on this day…
