“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
“The message of the cross” means the Gospel message … the Good News about Christ’s death and resurrection for our sins. The gospel penetrates to the core of self-centeredness. But for those who exalt self, the message sounds absurd because they deny its power to save them from eternal destruction.
However, for those who bow humbly in faith, it becomes the “power of God” that will snatch them from death and give them eternal life. The cross is the instrument of God’s salvation. No wonder the Apostle Paul put such confidence in this message.
