“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” Psalm 14:1

The word “fool” refers not to mental inability but to moral and spiritual insensitivity. The phrase “no God” suggests “practical atheism,” the view that if there is a God, it really does not matter to one’s life. Atheism, while increasingly common, is nothing new.

The Hebrew word for corrupt has the idea of soured milk. Those who cease to believe in God will eventually “sour”; they will degenerate into doing evil, usually involving the abuse of others. “No one who does good” is a blanket condemnation of all people … apart from Christ, we cannot please God.

Blessings on your day…
