“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15
Believers should acknowledge the eternal holiness of Christ by revering Him as the Lord of the universe who is in control of all things. Peter assumes that the Christian faith will be falsely accused, so he encourages Christians to have rational answers to respond to those false accusations.
Christian witness begins with a person’s own faith. We must know what we believe, teach, and confess according to God’s Word. Then, we can be a positive testimony and witness to the truth of the Gospel. Christianity stands up to scrutiny and investigation because it is true.
As others notice a Christian’s faithful response to adversity, it may cause them to seek the reason, and thus hear the Gospel. Teaching and defending the Gospel should never be done with arrogance; God calls for a gentle witness in order for the truth to have a chance to be received.
Blessings on your day…
