“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
“You who are weary and burdened” on the surface can describe the Jews, who were suffering under a load of religious responsibilities laid on them by priests, rabbis, scribes, and Pharisees. However, a deeper look indicates the thing hidden from the wise is the entirely of God’s gracious plan of salvation for everyone, the message that both Jesus and John the Baptist proclaimed. Jesus’ contemporaries by and large rejected Him, preferring to live under the heavy yoke of the Law as the way to salvation. Jesus invites us to receive the yoke of the Gospel, which guarantees true rest. “Rest” being the peace of God, which “surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).
God’s blessings on your day…
