“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10

“Fear of the Lord” is the central theme of the Book of Proverbs. The only appropriate way to approach the Lord is with fear, that is, reverence. The “fear of the Lord” is reverence for God and spiritual worship of Him, for in this meaning Scripture everywhere uses the expression the “fear of the Lord”. For the truest worship of God does not consist in works, no matter how great they may be, but in true and proper respect.

The term “knowledge” always means more than mere cognitive awareness. It means an intimate relationship as well. God promises to give understanding and knowledge to those who revere Him as their God and Father.

The term “Holy One” is an intensive plural of the Hebrew word for holy … “the most Holy One” or “the quintessence of holiness.”

Bottom line … you will feel the effects of your wisdom or foolishness directly; you cannot escape them in this context.

God’s blessings on your day…
