“How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.” 2 Samuel 7:22

This chapter records the establishment of the Davidic Covenant, which amplifies and confirms the nation promises of the Abrahamic Covenant in Genesis 12:1–3. The issues of 2 Samuel 7 are of great theological importance, including the coming of the Savior Jesus and especially to His coming reign on the throne of David.

The Lord tells David what He will do and make for him – an everlasting house and kingdom. Jesus Christ is the “rest” and “house” promised to David. In Him, God’s people have rest from their enemies of sin and death, and in Him they shall dwell forever.

In humility in verse 22, David acknowledges that everything the Lord has done and will do for him and for Israel is due solely to the Lord’s mercy. Today, when great blessing comes your way, thank and glorify the Lord for His gifts. And His greatest gift is the One to come, Jesus, the Son of David.

God’s blessings on your day…
