“LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.” Isaiah 25:1

Chapter 25 is a poem celebrating God’s destruction of the sinful earth. It falls into three parts: (1) a hymn of praise by Isaiah (verses 1-5); (2) the Lord’s feast on Mount Zion celebrating His destruction of death (verses 6–8); and (3) a hymn of praise by the congregation (verses 9–12).
In today’s verse, the term “perfect faithfulness” can also be thought of as “absolute truth.” While, the phrase “wonderful things” points to the fact that there are wonders only God can do. He will accomplish His will.

We know that God will prepare a feast on Mount Zion that will swallow up death forever. Death is what we deserve as the just penalty for our sin. No human efforts or resources can shelter us from it. By Jesus’ resurrection, death has been swallowed up in victory. As we await the day of our own bodily resurrection, we are invited to eat and drink with the Lord in His Holy Supper, a foretaste of the feast to come.

Blessings on your day…
