“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26-28
“Children of God” includes all believers in Christ, including Gentiles, without distinction. All believers now bear this title once reserved for Israel.
“Clothed yourselves with Christ” indicates that through Baptism, God incorporates believers into union with Christ. Thus, His righteousness becomes ours. Luther said, “Christ Himself is our garment … the garment of our righteousness and salvation”.
Through Christ, God fulfills the promise He gave to Abraham. All united to Christ by Baptism become heirs of the promise and therefore are righteous before God. The Law, as between Moses and Christ, still serves the purpose of revealing sin and our need for a Savior. However, Christ does what the Law cannot do. He gives forgiveness and eternal life.
God’s blessings on your day…
