“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:14
An unbeliever does not have the Spirit of God, in contrast to the Christian who does have the Spirit. “Accept” here means to welcome. This verb does not pertain to discovering the meaning of a passage, but applying the meaning to life.
The message of the cross is simple, but the spiritual wisdom that comes with it touches every area of life and faith. In view of this, we see unbelievers as people with no true spiritual comprehension. The Holy Spirit grants such understanding only through the Gospel.
