“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
“Start children off” is a Hebrew phrase that has the sense of “dedicate.”
“The way they should go” could refer to the moral route or to the career path of the child. Most believe God had the moral route in mind with this verse. Regardless, the child’s training as a whole is being addressed.
Part of this teaching is to avoid the hooks and snares of Satan that line the path of life. A fool is the person who needlessly walks in threatening places, not knowing or caring what a dangerous position he/she may be in. This obviously applies to adults as well as children.
