“Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.” James 1:21
The word of God that has been implanted in the believer’s heart should be received with a teachable spirit—without resistance, disputing, or questioning. Receiving God’s Word in this way will save the believer’s soul (a word meaning “life”).
As a seed is planted into soil, so the Word of God comes from outside of us and produces a harvest of righteousness in our lives.
The Word pertains to both Law and Gospel; God’s Word makes us righteous and enables us to lead righteous lives.
We know sin leads to death. But obedience to God’s Word prevents death; it protects a believer from sinful behavior that can lead directly or indirectly to physical death.
