“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
This verse is part of the Lord’s response to specific prayer petitions by Solomon. It validates the new temple as the place not only of sacrifice, but also of prayer, and it brings forward the theme of repentance and restoration following generations of rebellion.
Solomon’s prayers had been heard and would be answered, but there were conditions. If God’s people would do three things, God would respond in three ways. The Lord’s people needed to become humble, that is, confess; they needed to pray, or repent; and they needed to turn, or come back to Him. If they did those things, God would hear, forgive, and heal them.
God is eternal and does not change. Thus, He makes the same offer to us today. If we but humble ourselves, pray, and turn to Him, He will hear, forgive and heal us through His Grace.
Blessings on your day…
