“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32
The old life comes from a corrupt human nature all are born with, which seeks its own way, speaks evil and wishes evil on others. So then, how do we put away the old life? By letting God fill our hearts with His perfect love. As the Apostle Paul says, the new life is compassionate, shows itself in acts of kindness, and is ready to forgive wrongs suffered from others. This summary statement of the Law culminates in the Christ-like act of forgiveness.
